Speech therapist/speech development

Both kindergarten and primary school children are welcome to the consultation of a speech therapist. During the consultation, the need for further speech development work is determined. In the individual class for speech development, we work on eliminating various pronunciation and speech impediments as well as problems related to acquiring reading and writing skills.

Consultations and individual classes with a speech therapist take place both as contact classes at Väike Päike Kesklinna Lastehoid (Tuukri 11, Tallinn) as well as virtually. Virtual counselling takes place at a pre-arranged time suitable for the client and the counsellor via a video call, using the Zoom application.

During the consultation, the following activities take place, depending on the problem:

• Conversation with the parent
• Conversation with the child (if possible)
• Playful activities with the child (with the help of pictures, books, toys, interactive tools, etc.)
• Observing the interaction between the child and the parent
• Assessment of the child’s speech and non-verbal communication skills
• Giving an initial assessment and making a decision regarding the need for further speech therapy

INDIVIDUAL SPEECH DEVELOPMENT CLASS FOR CHILDREN AGED 3–10 YEARS

Content of the individual speech development class: working on various aspects of speech (pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, morphology, storytelling, reading and writing skills) and development of mental processes in a play situation. The content of speech developmental work and the choice of techniques depends on the age of the child and the level of their speech development.

• Learning games (with the help of pictures, books, toys, interactive materials, etc.)
• Exercises to activate the pronunciation apparatus and improve its mobility
• Pronunciation exercises
• Exercises to develop vocabulary and expand sentences
